“Bend: Living At Its Best”

Bend, Oregon is the largest city in Central Oregon, with a population of about 77,000. The city's curious name comes from the term " Farewell Bend", which is what settlers used to refer to the location on the bend in the Deschutes River where the city was established. Europeans began arriving in the area in 1824, where they found the location ideal for fording the river. In 1901 a water powered commercial sawmill was opened and within a few years the community blossomed. The mills have been gone a long time, yet Bend maintains its boom town feeling. These days it’s historic Downtown Bend with its art galleries, fine dining, antique shops and various other boutiques that draw people. For relaxation residents go to Drake Park, sometimes for free concerts or just to look at the sky. For theater there is Les Schwab Amateur theater, and Tower Theater. For family diversions there is the High Desert Museum which shelters more than 100 wildlife creatures like a lynx and a bobcat. Finally there is Des Chutes Historical Museum, (which means “the falls” in French if you were wondering) a great place to learn about the history of Bend.

Tourism is one of Bend's largest employment sectors. There are the Cascade Lakes, and Mount Bachelor to start, the latter of which is a ski resort which brings people from all over the region. There are numerous recreational activities that include golfing, rock climbing, biking, hiking and skiing. These industries generate a considerable amount of tax revenues for the city, about $2.5 million in 2015 alone. The largest sectors after tourism are Health Care and social services with about 6000 jobs, professional, and scientific services jobs with about 2000, lumber and wood products about 1700, and recreation equipment like boats etc bring in about 1000 jobs. Today retirees find end an attractive retirement destination. Major employers in the city include Saint Charles Medical Center, with about 2700 employees, Les Schwab Tire Centers with about 900 jobs, Sun river Resort with about 900 jobs, and Amount Bachelor with about 750 jobs.Call the Bend Surety Bond Pros Today at 800-314-7003!
