In recent years East Ridge’s economic development was spurred on by the Border Region Act that the state of Tennessee enacted in 2011. East Ridge was one of three cities that secured the designation before the window of opportunity closed in 2012. The measure permits enterprises to development a 950-acre parcel in cities that are adjacent to state lines. The new status allows for 75 percent of sales tax revenue collected within the designated area be returned to East Ridge for 10 years. The costs associated with creating these developments will also be reimbursed to the city, including financial incentives to large enterprises and the improvements needed to draw them to East Ridge. The city of East Ridge is dedicated to capitalizing on its official status of border state location to spur its economic development. That status permits the city to receive a portion of the state sales tax that it generates. Recently the East Ridge Industrial Development Board approved a financial assistance incentive to a developer, Suhash Patel, who is constructing a building on the southwest corner of Truman and Ringgold Road.
