Call 800-314-7003! What is a surety bond? A surety bond is a guarantee, but one provided by a third-party, namely the surety company. You'll need a third-party guarantee if you want to get a license to run a motorcycle school. There are a lot of regulations related to student tuitions and safety and health, and in order to get you to guarantee that you will do business by the book, the government requires that you guarantee your commitment. You could, of course, put up the money yourself for the guarantee, but that would hurt your working capital. On the other hand, you can buy a surety bond for a few pennies on the dollar coverage, and the surety company will use its financial strength to guarantee to the government that if it needs to make a claim against you, then the surety will make sure that it's paid. This paid claim amounts to a short-term loan to you which must be paid back while you to the charity company. Pro Surety Bond has over 25 years of joint industry experience. Call 800-314-7003!
If you are bidding on public projects for the City of Merrill you may be required to post a Bid Bond. The Bid Bond guarantees you will be able to provide the Performance Bonds required in the event you are the low bidder. In essence the Bid Bond pre-qualifies you for the work you are bidding on. Merrill is a city in in the county seat of Lincoln County and it is the 67th most populous community in the state of Wisconsin. The site they would become Merrill was first inhabited by the Chippewa Indians, and the first Americans of European descent established a logging community named Jenny Bull Falls. Soon followed a trading post, and a few years later a dam across the Wisconsin River. After the dam came a mil and then more mills and even more mills after that. I think we see a pattern. In 1899 the community's name was changed to Merrill in honor of S.S. Merrill, the general manager of the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul, and Pacific Railroad.
Why don't all contractual obligations require Surety bonds? Surety bonds are usually used in cases where the job has to be finished, no questions asked. With most other contractual obligations, it's not a matter of life and death, and if you don't fulfill your obligation on the commitment, you can just be taken to court. Let's say however, that you are a house painter. Let's say further that you're in the middle of a job, and for one reason or other you can't finish the job. In cases like this you need a surety bond because you can't leave the house halfway unpainted, or at least that's what the government has judged to be important. What is the difference between a surety bond and a certificate of liability insurance? For one, surety bonds are guarantees that you will meet a legal commitment. If you don't live up to that commitment, the party that asked for the bond can make a claim against it. in other words, the surety bond protects somebody else. The other end, liability insurance covers you, but in the event the one of your employees accidentally hurt someone and you have to pay that party damages. Accidently is the key word here as. As you can see, if you're in business, you will need both.
You buy liability insurance to cover you against the financial loss that could ruin your business financially. Finding a company that will write a general liability policy for your company should be easy, because insurers cover a large list of standard risks. When it comes to surety bonds however, you might find surety companies a little more selective. Sureties must be selective because they're covering the contractual obligation, something which is in theory avoidable. Therefore, if a claim needs to be made, the surety needs the bond purchaser to pay the surety back. From the surety’s point of you, this involves making sure that before it issues a surety bond, that the company that issues it to is financially strong enough to pay back any claim that might be made.
