Call 800-314-7003! What is a surety bond? Surety bonds occupy a rather unusual place in the insurance world. Depending on which point of view you are look at it, it looks like liability insurance, or it can look a short loan from other angles. Let’s say your retail business collects sales tax for the department of revenue. The department is serious about merchants making their drop, so they require a surety bond from the merchant. From the government’s point of view, the surety bond looks like liability that the merchant bought. From the point of view of the merchant, it’s like receiving a short term loan (in the case of default, that is), from the point of view of the surety it looks like a loan they are making to the merchant. Pro Surety Bond has over 25 years of combined industry experience and we think it shows in our great customer service. Call today even if your credit is not great. We have a program for almost everyone. Call 800-314-7003!
If you are bidding on public projects for the City of Paris you may be required to post a Bid Bond. The Bid Bond guarantees you will be able to provide the Performance Bonds required in the event you are the low bidder. In essence the Bid Bond pre-qualifies you for the work you are bidding on. Not all jobs require bonding but if they do we can assist you with Bid Bonds, and subsequent Performance and Payment Bonds as required by the state. Paris is a city in Lamar County and it is the 111th most populous city in the state of Texas. The city was named after a general store that served as the local post office, though there is no word on how the store got that name. The first settlers arrived in 1826, and the city was incorporated into the Republic of Texas in 1845. By the time of the Civil War it was a cattle and farming center. Today Paris is a vibrant community in Northeast Texas, at the western edge of Piney Woods.
Paris, Texas has a lot to offer business investors. There are numerous sites zoned commercial, to fit just about any commercial need, and it has a number of economic incentives to encourage you to relocate here. On top of all that, Paris has that small town feel that many people look for when they want to call a place home. Are there any alternatives to surety bonds for those of us in the construction business? There are, but you might find yourself in a pot of water. There is Subcontractor Default Insurance, which provides coverage for contractors when a subcontractor defaults on an obligation. There are certain advantages to SDI, like lower premiums and sometimes you can get SDI if you can’t otherwise get a bond. There are some big drawbacks though.
One drawback of SDI is that deductibles are often high, to the tune of hundreds of thousands, which is not an issue with performance bonds. Another big drawback is that SDI often is not a substitute for a surety bond on public works projects. According to the Miller Act, the statute that requires surety bonds for all public works projects of more than $100,000, only surety bonds may be used to secure an obligation.
