One very common misconception about surety bonds is that there are an insurance policy to protect you. Technically, surety bonds are insurance, but not in the way you may be thinking. Think of a surety bond as insurance that the person asking for the bond wants, but is making you pay for. The surety bond is essentially a contract with outlines of an obligation, and with a surety bond as the kind of referee who makes a decision on whether a claim may be valid. So in essence the bond does not cover you that covers your customers.
